The Shed

the-shed

Every man needs a shed – it is where we think, tinker around, design, create and work out things in our head.

Sort the head in the shed!

Well this shed is no different. It has tools in here for you to work with, explore, and design your pregnancy so you get the best out of it. Have a look around and see what we’ve got. Some of it may sound a little strange, different or nonsensical at first. Don’t panic – that’s called pregnancy! We have been doing this a while and we felt the same. Sit back, relax, mull it over (maybe with a beer) and enjoy the ride. You are entering a whole new world – you may need a bit of a hand – let us be your mate. Fatherhood is an amazing journey – a bit like Oblivion at Alton Towers. One minute you are hanging over the edge and then Bang – it’s all go go go! Be ready, prepare well! We promise it’s worth it!

Tools

Reading material – even if you only have it next to the bed – it shows intention and you will get favourable glances etc.

Being happy – Andrew Matthews – a great book done in cartoons that explains life brilliantly!

Making Friends – Andrew Matthews – explains relationships in a way that is not heavy and will actually make you smile.

Peoplemaking – Virginia Satir – a book that requires time and thought but very interesting.

Creating a happy Mum – do the dishes before she asks – honest it works! But also do something every week that makes her feel you are aware, thinking of her, care or are interested. Blokes do not understand that a woman has to give up a lot to do this. Drinking, certain foods, feeling attractive, her comfortable life. On top of that she knows her body will never be the same again, will you still love her, be attracted to her, be interested in someone who is tired a lot of the time? Women are aware men can walk away if things go wrong. For women this is it – no turning back. Her experience in pregnancy has an influence on the baby. The amount of women I see who have had a stressful pregnancy and then have a stressful baby is extremely common. Ironically the calm Mums have the calm babies in most cases. If you have a baby that is stressed it will stress you I promise, so do the work now. Set the foundation, support your woman whether you are with her or not. This is your baby too. A little life that is vulnerable and needy. You need to be at the cave door and if that means helping manage her stress then it may be wise to do that. Paying for a massage, an extra pair of hands to help with organising the room? Whatever it is, give it some thought and the payback will be ten fold.

Links Fathers to be is a great site with well thought out material.

A juicer – carrots, apples and celery are a great way to get your partner going in the morning – yes more work, but nutritionally brilliant. The juice goes in the body so quick they don’t even notice it. Mum and baby get lots of nutrients but she doesn’t feel heavy and tired.

The best type is masticating and yes they are more expensive but work out cheaper in the long run once you take in to account what you would lose in nutrients. A new Mum also needs nutrients, in fact even more so, so don’t worry it will be a good investment.

Quality time – just the two of you together. Boys don’t really think of it, but I promise you that once baby arrives you will have wished you created more time before. For a woman it’s like gold – it means you love me because you want to spend time with me.

Communication – we cannot overstate this. This is the key to relationships and where they all fall down. Humpty Dumpty is tricky to put back together again so start doing some work now. Our section will help a lot but there are many tools out there in this area.
